Points to Ponder

Is freedom of the press a = prerequisite for=20 democracy? =

"Here in Nigeria, despite our strong intellectual = capacity and=20 contribution to world politics ... press freedom is still = being=20 neglected and monopolized by the government. Our selected=20 representatives have over the years failed to comprehend the = importance of a free press ...

I believe that [lack of] press freedom and a true = democracy are=20 two of the unfortunate factors that continue to militate = against the=20 proper development of our country economically, politically = and=20 socially.

Until [there is] proper pay, adequate training and the = right to=20 freedom of the press, most of the countries in Africa [will] = remain=20 backward in this new age of globalization and information = technology=20 and true democracy will continue to elude us."
