Should news organizations ban reporters from using certain online sites as sources?

The Agence France Presse (AFP) announced last week that it will no longer allow reporters to use Wikipedia and Facebook as sources. What should the standard be when it comes to using online sources? Does your news organization allow for the use of online sources such as Wikipedia? What can be done to ensure that information obtained from such sites is accurate and unbiased? Make yourself heard.

IJNet would like to hear your opinion. We invite you to answer these questions or add some of your own. Join the discussion by clicking on "Add a Comment". Please identify your country if possible. Thanks for your participation.

Points to Ponder

Interactive media: How do they influence traditional journalism?

“We need a change in adaptation. The conventional media is very much biased and unethical. In India we face that trivial issues are more highlighted on prime time. A recent CMS Media Lab survey says that the media credibility is on the stake. There are new initiatives by Print and television groups which gave platform to other companies.
Surely the new media, blogging, podcasting, citizen journalism need more dimensions to galore the possibilities of society.”
