Journalists from emerging and aspiring democracies around the world are invited to apply for a five-month fellowship in Washington, D.C., that seeks to provide participants with a greater understanding of democracy, ultimately helping facilitate democracy building in their countries. Deadline is November 2.

The program, the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program, was established in 2001 with funding from the U.S. Congress to enable democratic practitioners, scholars, and journalists from around the world to deepen their understanding of democracy and enhance their ability to promote democratic change.

Interested participants should have experience in democracy promotion. Fellowship topics will focus on the political, social, economic, legal or cultural aspects of democratic development.

Fellowships are awarded to 16 to 20 fellows per year. The fall session will be from October 1, 2010 to February 28, 2010 and the spring session will be from March to July, 2011.

The fellowship is sponsored by U.S.-based National Endowment for Democracy.
