The mission of the SLMMF is to bring together Muslims who are involved in the Print and Electronic Media and also those who are involved in the communication industry in educating, imparting knowledge and training of Media Personnel in the country.

Rationale

Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum was started in 1996 with just 34 members with the following objectives:
(i)    To safeguard the ideals of media freedom.
(ii)    To unite all Muslim Media Personnel in Sri Lanka under the umbrella of the FORUM.
(iii)    To safeguard the interest of all Communities
(iv)    To defend the rights of members to practice their profession.
(v)    To protect against any infringement of media freedom and the violation of the rights of free expression of any media personnel, irrespective of whether the person is a member of the FORUM.
(vi)    To develop the professional standard of members in the field of journalism in Sri Lanka by organizing lectures, seminars, workshops etc.
(vii)     To establish contacts and cooperate with fraternal organizations, both local and foreign, towards achieving the objects of the FORUM.
(viii)    To take necessary actions whenever there are misrepresentations regarding Islam/Muslims in the media.

The MOTTO of the Forum is “Injustice anywhere threat to Peace Everywhere”
